Belgian supercar-the shaving disease half ghost car

Words by Steven Wagers

The Belgians have created a supercar. They call it the Gillette Vertigo .5 Spirit. It's a bit of a mouthful, I know, but it has some merits. For one, the Vertigo .5 Spirit is light. Very light.

this picture first in a moment. Image from Top Gear.

In fact this particular supercar weighs less than a metric ton. It is only 950 kilograms and it has Maserati's 4.2 litre V8 which produces 420 horsepower. I know normally when you think of a proper supercar, it has 500 plus horsepower but this combination of lightness and power should make this a very quick car. It should beat the old Vertigo's 0-62 time of 3.26 seconds.

It's an interesting looking car as well. It sort of looks like a TVR Tuscan and a Maserati Granturismo had a baby and this is the result. It's not exactly a hideous car but it is an acquired taste. From the side and from the rear, it is quite a good looking thing, but if you look at it head on, aiyyyyyyyy.

From the released pictures one can see that it does not have a beautiful interior like a Mercedes Benz or a Jaguar XFR. The Vertigo .5 Spirit shown here has a brown leather and suede interior which just isn't a good look. The car is fully customizable though so you can change the interior to make it more of a friendly place to be.

On a good sidenote though, the Vertigo .5 Spirit does have Lamborghini-like scissor doors. It also has a nice massive wing on the back which means it should produce enough downforce to push the back of the car into the pavement.

The fact of the matter is, if/when you see one on the road it should still brighten your day for two reasons:

1. It looks a bit bonkers, which all supercars should be.

2. Because it's not made by as well a known manufacturer as say Ferrari or Lamborghini, there aren't going to be a ton of them on the road. This rarity should make it a real treat to see one, even if you think it is eye-gougingly horrible to look at.

Can this car compete with Ferraris and Astons? No, not a chance, but in its own way, it's a cool car.
