Since then Toyota hasn't really produced anything capable of even coming close to filling the shoes of the once mighty Supra.
Now though, they might be on the right track.
This comes in the form of the Toyota FT-86 II, which at the moment is still in the concept car stages. It was first unveiled in 2009 as the FT-86, but rather than go ahead with the design at that point Toyota decided to bring it back inside and improve it.
They were successful.
The original had a bit of a mean, sporty look to it, but the new design makes it look positively hostile.
This is the car Batman drives to the grocery store. And that's a good thing, because Batman can even make getting milk look cool.
The side profile could use a bit more edginess to it, but when the front and back look like they do it can be forgiven for a bit of blandness down the side.
According to Car and Driver, the FT-86 will be borrowing an engine from Subaru. A 2L four-cylinder engine to be exact. It should make around 200 horsepower and weight will be in the area of 2800 lbs.
In fact Subaru will be making a version of the car themselves as well.
The FT-86 II will still require a bit of patience for those interested though, as Top Speed is reporting that it should go on sale in 2012 at the starting price being somewhere in the vicinity of $25,000.
